Default Web hosting companies, and uptime policies.

My first question is, has anyone’s host ever dipped below their server uptime guarantee? If they did, were you compensated? If you were compensated, what did they compensate you with?

I apologize for all the questions but I would also like to know how to I know that my web host is fulfilling their guarantee uptime policy?

Thanks for your attention.

I've been instructed to send an email to the billing department when my host has fallen under their uptime guarantee. Fortunately I haven't had to make use of this in the past year.

My web hosts requires me to send them an email if I suspect that they haven't reached their uptime guarantee. I've been compensated twice over the past two years.

Update: my server went down for several hours for "maintenance." I contacted my web host's customer service and they applied a free month credit to my account within 12 hours.

They also assured me it wasn't going to be a constant problem. Rather a maintenance upgrade. That's cool with me, upgrading my server and a free month.

Most hosts will require the customer to e-mail them in the event that you suspect that there has been downtime. In most cases, the web host will compensate for the down time.

It's best to check the TOS of each of the companies that you host with.

Just like most everyone else, the great majority of web hosts will compensated for downtime only if they are contacted before hand.

Default Had this problem long ago but..

I had problems with one host but never bothered about compensation as it can never pay for the damages of a busy site being offline...so I just left and started selling hosting that's 100X better!

I’ve never actually had a problem with uptime, so there hasn’t been any need for me to contact my web host.

Is anyone hosted by a company that will actually contact you if your site goes down?

I guess that’s what happens when you pay a company less than 10 dollars a month and expect service and uptime as if you were paying $35/month.

Luckly I've never had to deal with this kind of issue.
