Default Hostgator Question

Hi, I am looking at virtual hosting with Hostgator. The plans look good and I am close to signing up.

I am just a little concerned though as I have read threads about people having their accounts terminated and their sites deleted.

I agree with shared hosting you don't have access to the full resources of the server. However if a script mis-behaves or something unexpected happens I wouldn't expect the host to close your account and delete your sites (unless you did something deliberate like spamming)

I would expect them to suspend your account and email you. I think that is quite reasonable.

I don't have a high traffic site, I have some personal pages and a small message board etc but if the database were deleted I would loose information.

I would love Hostgator to confirm what their policy is now.

Also are Hostgator getting out of offering dedicated servers?

I am sure they have never deleted any website for using too much cpu or memory resource. Suspend it possibly but never delete, I have never read about this anywhere.

It would be best if you ask HostGator directly, because neither me or anyone else on these forums could give you a real answer except Brent himself. I am also unsure about HostGator getting out of the dedicated server business, again this question would be best answered by them.

7.) Resource Usage

Users may not initiate the following:

a) Use 25% or more of system resources for longer then 90 seconds. There are numerous activities that could cause such problems; these include: CGI scripts, FTP, PHP, HTTP, etc.

Have you contacted Hostgator to ask them about this? Hostgator is a good sized host with quite a few happy customers. I'm sure they'd be willing to give you some straight answers re: your concerns.

I am with hostgator and I really do not think I could put into words how good they are. Support is excellent, speed too!

Sign up with them, you will not regret it!
