Default My take on Netrillium

I signed up with Netrillium for a period of time because it was apparently "the web host" out there. At least in the forums I was hanging around.

I had high expectations when I signed up with Netrillium, because I had heard so much positive about them and I knew one of the girls who worked as part of the Support Team. Generally, I was just fed up at the time when it came to crappy web hosts, so I just wanted a proper place to settle with.

Sign up went okey, and everything gave the impression of working properly, untill some of my hostees pointed out they weren't always capable of viewing subdomains or web mail wouldn't work properly.

And then came the periods the server "seemed" down. It worked for almost everyone else, but it wouldn't respond to me. no ping reply, no nslookup reply either. I tried contacting Netrillium frequently about this problem, but they said there was nothing they could do, it was my isp. They asked me to litterary call up my isp and ask them to update their dns'es properly.

Something that just doesn't work that way in Norway. I tried slapping in a proxy which appeared to work for some time and then not suddenly whereas if i removed the proxy, the site would work again and back again for weeks.
This problem was not only just mine. I had someone in Belgium and England with the same problems, so I knew I wasn't alone.

The server was frequently slow on ftp. If I wanted to do a little manual backup of everything and download it, I had to reconnect every five minutes because it got "stuck" no matter what I did. Again, I have no idea why, and nothing Netrillium did appeared do work.

After 6 months, I asked the two hostees who had most trouble with accessing everything to monitor certain webhosts that looked promising, and if they has 100% reply, we'd settle in there.

In my experience, Netrillium is somewhat overrated. Sure, they tried to help but it didn't give the impression they actually knew what they were doing and it could take several hours before I got a respond. (Even when I made sure I was asking around office time).

What really topped it for me was when I realised the bank had withdrawn some money from my account making me come short for the monthly payment. Transferring money from my paypal would take too long, and I was out of money untill my paycheck came in. I tried contacting Netrillium days before the billing would occur about chagning to paypal so i could just pay from there, but i received no reply in time.
at the same time, a "wow" thread about netrillium was starting up and i answered with my situation.
which turned out like this:
Quote:
I'm on fornax. And my ticket was about not withdrawing money from my credit card, but have the money sent over paypal as that's where i had cash available.

it's been three days now, they still haven't answered any tickets or any forum messages. I've seen Henry being on the forum twice yet still no word to be heard.

Even though the Omega server might be in trouble, it's still nothing they actually handle themselves. The servers are located in a serverhall with proper technicians. The only contact Ermina and staff has with these servers are through online settings. To say they're busy doing this and that is bullocks. There are five people supposedly working on support. I've seen neither of them helping their customers on the forum. And it's starting to overflow with enquiries there.

If this continues, I won't be there much longer. Support is not a part time job you bother doing once in a while. It's a fulltime job, and you don't ignore your customers, period.

Not only did I have to go through the embarassment of begging complete strangers to donate money to me, see friends of mine asking for the same at their sites and message boards and plaster my entire financial status out there, because i lacked a few dollars for the monthly payment. I also had to BEG my parents to give me a small loan so the bank withdraw wouldn't bounce simply BECAUSE netrillium didn't get back to me.

So pardon me if I'm a bit annoyed by the entire situation.

The familiarty I knew working in the Support Team refered to me as "angsty" and how I shouldn't really complain because its not like the server went down or my account was suspended... Of course.. I was "only" ignored by support. The one thing I simply don't tolerate.

And I just realised what a tough customer I am *laughs*
