Just to add on to what roxxy said.. When considering domain name options, you should never use misspelled words, too many dashes, or domains nobody can understand. Instead, be clear, concise, and use your given creativity when choosing a domain name. Also, if you are trying to SEO your site, using your targeted keywords in your domain name can create excellent SEO results.
Less and less good domains are available every day, so make sure you choose the right domain first. |

Very good point both of you, roxy and carter. But one should also have a name that is easily remembered as one aim to make your site a brand name on the web.
So I registered three domains and pointed them all to the same site. One for the people to remember easily. www.oppiweb.com and another www.oppieweb.com for those who remember the sound of the name. ( Ok, this sound one is not always applicable but in my case for my Afrikaans speaking surfers who hopefully spread the word by mouth.....)Then for SEO purposes I registered www.securedomainhostregisternameoppiweb.net just the other day and pointed that to my site as well! What a name to swallow! The reason this one being a .net, is to make provision for those who remember oppinet in stead of oppiweb. Further, the name contain my keywords because I have noticed that Google MSN Yahoo and others highlight the applicable words as they come up in the search terms even there where they form part of this long domain name. Proud to say, at the time I posted this, on the search term - secure domain host - my site was #1 on Google as well as MSN and some smaller ones as well. Quite a few other search terms I tried got me on the first page at least of quite a few engines where I tested my keywords. ![]() For some or another reason Yahoo doesn't seem to like me as much. ![]() |

Yes you are right again - proud to say that at oppiweb forwarding as well as masking is free.
One thing with the three domains pointing to my site is that it confuse Google's PR as well as Alexa's Traffic Rank! I have a different Traffic rank for each domain as well as Google PR. I must say that I find the Alexa Traffic Rank more informative than the Google PR. That green bar means nothing really...sometimes I wonder why Google started it as it means nothing and I am not the only one that think so. But I would say that if you make use of websites for advertising, the Alexa traffic rank tells you what a site is worth as it gives a better idea of the traffic a website is getting. So webmasters, do pop in at oppiweb and grab the toolbar...once you' get used to the info it provides about a site you vissit, you don't want to be without the toolbar. True what you and roxy say, good domains are getting more and more difficult to get. Most domain registrars encourage people to register their names as .com .biz . info and all the rest...but I changed my mind about that one as I don't believe it's reallly worth it. I would rather register a name to remember easily and a SEO one having the products in the name and are sure that two will be better for my pocket and site than registering a dozen of the same name just to make sure someone else don't grab my name using a different extention. Most people look for products or information when using the search engines and not for names - so if somone try to steal my name using another extention I don't think it's really going to help him/her. ![]() |
