How do you pick a domain name?

Just out of pure curiosity, how do you usually pick your domain names? Is it a sudden hit of inspiration or do you try different domain names one right after another within a domain register?

My domain’s usually hit me and I’ll try it with GoDaddy. Most of my ideas them are already taken.

Usually I sit with my register open trying good domain names related to my topic. The longest I've spent coming up with a domain name in one sitting is 2 hours.
